Carol A. Kivler, MS, CSP, President of Kivler Communications, First diagnosed with a mental illness in 1990, Carol was challenged with periodic acute bouts of medication-resistant depressive, responsive only to ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). Since 1990, she has experienced both long periods of recovery and four acute episodes of depression, each time requiring hospitalization and additional ECT treatments. For Carol, ECT has become her “ladder out of the depression pit.”

Presently, Carol has been in recovery for 14 years and is president of Kivler Communications, a company that provides customized corporate training as well as executive coaching. Through Kivler Communications, she has conducted more than 2,500 workshops and coached over 700 executives worldwide.

Carol founded Courageous Recovery to share her personal story of depression, treatment, and recovery with healthcare professionals, nursing and medical schools, and clients and their family members. Her mission is to dispel the myths and stigma surrounding mental illness and to inspire hope that recovery is real.

Carol has a BS from The College of New Jersey in business education and a MS from Fordham University in human resource education. Carol has also received the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association. Further,
Carol has been an active member of the American Psychiatric Nursing Association Advisory Board.

Carol has been interviewed on television, radio, and print. She is a featured speaker at numerous mental health conferences around the country. Carol has written four books:
Blessings: Your Journal of Gratitude, her award winning book, Will I Ever Be the Same Again?, her pocket guide The ABCs of Recovery from Mental Illness, and her latest book, Amazon Best Seller, Mental Health Recovery Boosters. Carol resides in Lawrenceville, NJ.
